Dear control freaks,
I have a Pinterest. I am mildly obsessed with Pinterest.
I use Pinterest to plan out outfits, hair and makeup, meals, photoshoots, projects, my SAT and ACT strategies, the type of flowers that will be in season when I have my wedding, and the Halloween costumes for each of my three future children.
My name is Allison and I am a plan-oholic.
I have a majority of my future carefully scheduled out. Go ahead. Ask me where I want to go to college, what my dorm will look like, and what brand of coffee maker will be sitting on my desk. It's all organized.
I tend to be a little brittle about changing my plans because every little detail is perfect and when those details are thrown off I just don't know how to respond. I like my plans and I like them to stay the way I planned them.
However, I've been reading through Proverbs lately and came across a couple verses in chapter sixteen that made me pause and rethink my planning tendencies.
To humans belong the plans of the heart,
but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.
-Proverbs 16:1
In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.
-Proverbs 16:9
"But wait!" my inner self whines. "None of my plans are bad. I mean, I want to go to a Christian college and have an adorable dorm and then have a successful career with a side photography business and earn lots of money and donate it to starving orphaned whales and own a Pinterest-y apartment where I make tasty banana bread loaves for myself and my neighbors. My plans are so pure that even a saint couldn't find fault in them."
Well, there's a verse for that too.
All a person’s ways seem pure to them,
but motives are weighed by the Lord.
-Proverbs 16:3
Anyways, I've come to the conclusion that lately I've been telling God a lot of my plans, but I haven't exactly been praying about them or asking for advice. I'm going to try to give my future to God and not get too upset when my plans don't work out the way I wanted them to.
That's really all I have for y'all today. Just some thoughts.
Anyways, have a fabulous week my loves!
