Pfft. Of course you have. Unless you've been living under a rock or on Pluto (which I still believe is a planet no matter what NASA tells me.) you have heard of this app.
According to Instagram's press page, there are over 200 million monthly Instagram users and more than 20 billion photos shared. I'm not easily impressed (well, I am, but it's usually by stupid stuff like those shoes that light up when you walk), but this? This is pretty dang amazing.
I was scrolling through my Instagram feed the other night (okay, more like the other hour) and saw how many people post pictures using the hashtags: #throwbackthursday or #flashbackfriday.
Now, I love posting old pictures of me. I have not yet discovered the trick to taking attractive selfies, so I prefer to post throwbacks since they're waaaaaaayyyyy cuter and (I think) funnier. Throwback usually means to when you were a little kid, but when I post throwbacks, it could be a picture from when I was two, or three weeks ago if I forgot to post the picture that day. I have a lot of old pictures that I'm saving for various flashback Fridays or throwback Thursdays. Since I have so many gems, I jump on the chance to post some of my old(er) pictures to Instagram.
Citizens of America: I have come to you today to suggest a new hashtag. We as Americans have far too many ancient photos that we would like the opportunity to share. That is why I propose a #memorymonday. It's basically just like #throwbackthursday or #flashbackfriday, but it's on a Monday. (no, dur) We need a third day in our week to post those awkward pictures we have stored in our phones. Fellow Americans, together we can begin a new trend. As a united country, let's share the memories! #MEMORYMONDAY2K14
This is just a side note, but do yourself a favor and NEVER EVER EVER type 2k14. It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Like, it's not even short for something like LOL or TTYL or anything. Newsflash: k is not more hipster than a 0 and it does not save you any time or effort.
Second side note: I'm thinking I would make an amazing presidential candidate. This whole thing is Inauguration Day speech worthy.
Anyways, I would like to begin this #memorymonday thang by sharing a few old pictures with you guys. But first? Some background information!
I have an extremely small family. Two aunts, two uncles, 3 (almost 4!) cousins. Family reunions aren't very exciting. But you know what? I'm okay with that. I know my cousins better than most people know their's. In fact, I have a lot of friends who've never even met half their cousins! It makes me thankful that my family is tiny because I'm able to have great relationships with each of my relatives.
The relative that I'm focusing on in my pictures today is my cousin, Megan. Megan is two years younger than me and the same age as my brother. Since we're the only two girls on that side of my family, we grew very close. We played together, ate together, talked together, and even bathed together (yeah, that's when we were really little...).
Last summer when she and my other cousin came into town, I talked her into doing a photoshoot with me and a few of my friends, which I'm sure was extremely awkward for her. However, I'm so happy we did it. We had a lot of fun and since I was just starting photography, I had been really excited to have the chance to take pictures using models.
These are a few of the pictures that came from that photoshoot last summer.... (for your information, a few of these can be found under the "Photography" tab in my photo gallery!)
All I've got to say is that I love my crazy cousin! ♡ And that we got our weird genes from both of our mom's side of the family.
Well, I think the world's first #memorymonday went pretty okay. I can't believe there are 20 billion pictures on Instagram and not one has the hashtag #memorymonday.
I'm feeling oh-so-hipster for getting ahead of the curve here guys. And being ahead of the curve is hipster. Replacing k's for 0s? Not so much.
**I'm so sad. I just looked up that hashtag and there are already 300,000 pictures tagged with it. Darn.
