The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love endures forever- you do not abandon the works of your hands.
-Psalms 138:8
Since today was Sunday, I figured a post about my favorite bible verse was appropriate. In church today, our pastor said that his favorite verse changes depending on the situation, and though that's true for me as well, I have one that seems to fit all circumstances. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Psalm 138:8!
The verse is written above in case you want to look it over before I continue on.... Done? Ok.
Yes, this verse is a sweet, lovey-dovey reminder that God is looking out for us, but the reason that this one stands out to me more than... John 3:16 for example, are the three promises tucked in there for me.
1.The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me. Do you know how many times I tell myself how useless I am? I have no recognizable talents or skills (other than de-eyebrowing famous people with Photoshop), I'm super awkward around people, and I'm not interesting at all. I mean, one of my favorite colors is white, and my favorite ice cream flavor is vanilla! But even though I doubt I can do anything to help further God's kingdom or make a difference in this world, I have faith that I will. God promises that he will fulfill his purpose for me, meaning that he chose me for a purpose, or chose a purpose for me. HE did. HIS purpose. God himself gave me a purpose, and not only do I have a purpose, but I know that I will fulfill that purpose. Me. Little, nobody, talent-less me.
2. Your love endures forever. This one is pretty self-explanatory, but it still blows me away that no matter what I do, God will still love me. Of course this isn't my excuse to go out and do bad, but I am so thankful that God loves me- even though I certainly don't deserve it!
3. You do not abandon the works of your hands. This works hand in hand with the others. Because God loves us so much, he will not abandon us. He will see us through until the end. He will fulfill our purposes that he gave us.
These three promises are my favorites, and all part of my favorite verse: Psalm 138:8. If you own a bible, you should whip it out right about now and highlight it!
So what is your favorite bible verse(s)? Do your's vary on the occasion? I'd love to know! Please leave a comment below!
